We do business…and it shows
Lockhart Hornby is an innovative
professional practice that works with innovative business
people. As owners and operators of our practice, we have a keen
appreciation for the stresses that accompany owning a business –
it’s not for the faint of heart. But we also understand the
unique excitement and opportunity of business ownership. Because
we live as entrepreneurs ourselves, and because we have had
business experience outside the legal profession, we have an
uncommon combination of legal training and real-life business
experience.
We work with privately held companies - from startups to
mid-size companies - often in emerging growth and technology
sectors as well as more traditional companies in well
established industries. Some of our clients would describe
themselves as high-growth
businesses and endeavor to raise capital through
private investments from "friends & family," angel investors and
institutional venture capital funds. High-growth and
investor-backed companies often enter into business, corporate
and financing transactions that are typical of larger companies,
and the legal services enabling these transactions are
frequently more sophisticated than the basic blocking and
tackling work that goes into helping any business client.
Lockhart Hornby is prepared to work with companies and business
people at either end of this spectrum.
Our
firm was organized in 2002 and was known as The Business Law
Advisors. The founders had been in-house general counsel of a
Charlotte company and had frequently used the services of
outside law firms. After the acquisition of their company, they
started The Business Law Advisors to provide the high-value,
high-quality legal services they did not believe were readily
available to smaller companies. The firm was organized to
operate under a streamlined overhead structure and without
internal billing quotas, which is a departure from the
traditional law firm model. The goal was to provide useful,
practical legal services and to serve only one master: the
client.
The firm was reorganized and renamed
Lockhart Hornby, PLLC in July of 2008. We will carry on the fundamental
objectives of our predecessors, and we will strive to provide an
even more satisfactory experience for our clients. |
